Monuments
Tbeti – Tbeti Cathedral is one of the beauties of Tao-Klarjeti architecture. It is located in the historic Shavsheti, approximately at a distance of 15 km from Shavshati City (Chevizli Village).

Khandzta – It’s the center full of high spirituality and built by Grigol Khandzteli. The main cathedral and the bell tower of the St. Giorgi’s Monastery are in a relatively good condition, and monks’ cells, small chapels, refectory and seminary are badly damaged.

Doliskhana – It is one the most maintained monuments. Window bas-reliefs of its south façade are fine and exquisite, and represent Davit’s star that indicates on the union of the saint Bagrationis’ king.


Artanuji Fortress – It was a fort housing Ashot Kurapalat. The fortress is located on the elevated rock. Its high points provide a picturesque panoramic view fascinating and exciting the visitors.

Ishkhani – The Church built by Saba Ishkhneli in IX century. It is distinguished for its fresco and façade décor. Azure dome stirs up a feeling of amazing space. The most ancient part of the church is a round altar (VII century) which is the only one among the Georgian churches.


Otkhta Church – Basilic cathedral of X century. The church is built in the honor of the four heralds that indicates on its name.

Parkhali – It is also the Xth century basilica which is well preserved.


Oshki – There is a saying that Parkhali was distinguished for its waters, Khakhuli - literacy, Ishkhani – painting, and Oshki – grandiosity. It is a church built in the honor of John the Baptist. It is really grand and leaves never-to-be-forgotten impression.

Khakhuli – It is one of the well preserved Georgian monuments. It was the most distinguished center of literacy & culture where Giorgi Mtatsmindeli was brought up and educated. He used to mention about it with proud everywhere.


Oltisi – It was the fortress of David III Kurapalat. It has been renovated and restored by Turkish people for many times and, thus, it has lost its ancient appearance.

Bana – It was one of the distinguished thanks to its special architectural type. It was a three-floor church which was 38 meters high. Currently, this church is damaged heavily.
